VERONICA RICHARDS: Tragic cases that we handle on a regular basis are cases in which the injury occurs during birth. The parents go into the birth expecting and being told that there's no reason to expect anything but a healthy newborn child. And over the period of hours because someone didn't do their job, what they end up with is a child who most often will have a brain injury.
Birth injuries can happen for all different reasons. One of the most frequent is a mother who goes into labor and should have a Cesarean section. And for one reason or another, the doctor elects not to do the Cesarean section.
Babies that are born with brain injuries often go on to develop a condition that's known as cerebral palsy.
SANDRA NEUMAN: You take it upon yourself to want to work hard and to find out what happened. What can I do to make it better for the lives--
